Exploring new horizons

My last trip out of home was on 25th December for GSDP class...... Seems to me that I spend my time more usefully when I attend one of Mr. Vijayan's superb classes than when I am at home. Anywayz, on our way back from college that day, on the spur of the moment, PC and I decided that a visit to the church to wish Jesus on his b'day was in order.

Hudson Memorial Church at Corporation Circle it was. With no idea what a non-Christian should and should not do, I was understandably nervous. Giving me company was good ol' PC who, sparing her MCC church visits, had an equally blank idea about it all. We wondered whether there would be a huge rush coz of the occasion, and were surprised that hardly a dozen people were there on Christmas evening which also happened to be a Sunday..... Anywayz we decided to follow the lead of another family who walked in at the same time as us. (of course, its a totally different matter that we never did follow their lead... hehe....)

We walked all the way in front of everyone else sitting there. After praying for a few minutes, and then admiring the artwork, we left. Absolutely nothing to it. Just stood up and walked out. My first visit to a church which was not a tourist place ended with no unexpected twists in the tale.

Yet there was something rather strange in the church. To the best of our knowledge, every church has a cross inside it, and sure enough, there was a cross in Hudson Church also. Behind the cross, there was a stained glass window (?) on which we saw a human form which must have been Jesus. The weird part was that we expected to find Jesus nailed to the cross, but He was nowhere to be found.

I'm still puzzled about it, coz I'm not sure whether every church has to have a cross, and that every cross has to have Jesus nailed to it...... Ah well, had I been a Christian, I might have known the answer to that one..... Invariably, one question leads to another. Now, was this a Protestant or a Roman Catholic Church with regard to the interiors ? Dunno again. Come to think of it, I don't even know the difference between the two.....

Being a Hindu by birth, I am somewhat familiar with the Hindu concepts. Now, I'm trying to explore what Christianity is all about. So far, I've read the Holy Bible and been to two churches, but my knowledge of this faith is limited to what I've read in books. My attempt to break through the ignorance barrier regarding other faiths goes on. Will I eventually succeed and gain a broader perspective on life ? Time will tell.....
